Office Inspiration

Like Reed mentioned last week, we are really excited to have our office makeover in full swing! This is the first official room where we've sat down and really put some thought into the design and decorating plans.  And since we're in a sharing mood, we figured we would show you what we've dreamed up.

  1. Striped Curtains
  2. Paint
  3. Light Fixture
  4. Map
  5. Desk
  6. Industrial Shelves
  7. Chair
  8. Rug
  9. Lamp
  10. Green Pillow

Disclaimer: Everything in our "mood board" is subject to change. We threw this together to start feeling inspired, so the chances of our room looking exactly like this picture are slim to none.  In fact, a few things have changed already. :)

We envision the office having a more masculine vibe than the other rooms in our house.
  • We are looking forward to some smokey bluish grey walls and crisp white woodwork, mixed with richly stained wood on the desk and bookshelf.
  • Our most exciting office project (in my opinion) includes building an industrial bookshelf made out of reclaimed wood (from Reed's grandpa) and galvanized pipes.  This inspiration pic shows black pipes, but we are actually leaning towards silver pipes which would coordinate well with the grey in the room.
  • The cream couch will hopefully be replaced by a distressed brown leather chair.  We are still on the hunt for one that's not ridiculously expensive, so the couch might be staying temporarily (which is okay by us, since it literally took the two of us hours to figure out how to get the couch to fit through the doorway initially).
  • We are thrilled to say that we will finally put together the desk pieces that Reed built, complete with our old wood door we found at an antique store in Galesburg. I'm even thinking about trying my hand at Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to paint the door a new color (any readers out there have any tips/tricks/opinions on it?).
  • I'm imagining some long grey and white curtains on both windows made by "Curtains by Carol" (she's my mom, and also the fabulous creator of all of the curtains in our house)! (Funny story, I placed the order for fabric a few days ago and completely forgot there were two windows in the room. duh.  Thankfully, www.fabric.com has great customer service and fixed it for me before the fabric shipped.)
  • Maps, globes, and other manly office decorations will find their place around the new room.  We are also looking for an old surveyors tripod floor lamp for a little extra lighting.
  • Reed's guitars are finally going to be hung on the wall to give us more floor space.
  • Not to mention new trim, a new light fixture, and eventually an organized craft closet!  And, if Reed gets his wish, possibly a TV...  It's still up for debate.
So, are you as excited as we are!? Okay good, who wants to come over and help?

Actual chalk paint any color- think it would be fun with poly over some spots.

  2. I am bursting with excitement for you! I really like those colors. I could have done them in my apartment!!! hmm... maybe I can pay maintenance to change the wall color ; )

p.s. you CANNOT get rid of Auntie Virg's couch. I will never come visit if you do.

  3. The idea to create a shelf from reclaimed wood is great. Not only are you saving money, but Mother Nature as well. Best of luck with the transformation!
